QuakeCon2002 Interview with Bully
an interview with Bully, August 22nd, 2002 the interview was done in german and then translated into english later on by AceAlive
The Barons Of Hell were the first German top-clan for RTCW and recently placed 4th at the QuakeCon2002. Now they are leaving the RTCW-stage. Reason enough to put some questions to Bully.
?Q : Gratulations for achieving the 4th place at QuakeCon2002 :)
Are you satisfied with what you have shown there and what you have reached ?
!A : Thank you. Yes, we are very satisfied.
But from our point of view, we could have reached more. Since maps were changed and
sub was played in round 2, our plans were destroyed ;)
But we don`t complain. 4th Place was ok and we had a lot of fun =)
?Q : How exactly did you preparation with mtw look like. Did you play day and night in LAN ?
!A : Yes we played a LAN-training with mtw on Saturday/Sunday. Not as long as planned but some
people had to work.
?Q : To what extent was the QuakeCon different from big LAN-Parties like the gxp in Germany ?
!A : We didn`t notice so much of the byoc-Lanparty, but it was similar to a German LAN. The
biggest difference at qcon was the tournament-area and its surroundings.
?Q : How did the Americans meet the Euro-clans especially the German clans ?
Were there any prejudices ? (I remember a strange commen by cK or darkside on shoucast..)
!A : There were no problems with American clans =)
Everyone was very nice, also from cK and darkside we herad nothing negative.
I believe they even were a little afraid ;)
?Q : Did you have the possibilty to hear a shoutcast-recording about boh ?
What is it like for you, when Warwitch makes comments like "boh is the german Wermacht of RTCW"
or "boh are attacking, because the fuhrer ordered them to do so" ?
!A : Warwitch told us he is a fan of Germany ;)
I think his Grandma is german ore something like that. The comments had no special motivation, I believe.
Warwitch was a boh-fan and has no idea that such comments are found disturbing to some Germans."
?Q : Do you see things like WolfTV and Shoutcast as a feature solely for RTCW or will this be a trend
that will become standard for other Games, too ?
!A : Yes. It is already, or will be standard for other games as well.
?Q : In irc and a comment on planetwolfenstein.de I read that you retire from RTCW, since you are
not willing to invest the time anymore, which is needed to compete at the highest level.
Does RTCW require significantly more time tan other Games ?
!A : No, it is just a little mor complicated to organize, since more players are needed to form a team.
?Q : Which amount of time did boh usually invest and how much do other Top-clans play every day ?
!A : We usually played 1 to 3 hours on a daily basis. But RTCW is on your mind all the time, if you`re
playing with as much ambition as we did. It`s the same for other clans as well, I believe.
?Q : When did boh decide to quit RTCW after the QuakeCon ? Was everyone at boh agreeing ?
Were there other reosons beside the time-factor involved in your decision ?
!A : The decision was made a long time ago and had nothing to do with our result at qcon.
We were a team from beginning to the end and therefore it was ok for all of us.
Besides the time-factor, we are needed to save the rain forest and the dolphins,
not to forget the littly seal-babies. The rain forest is very important for nature,
since it`s producing oxygen.
?Q : For many people , you have now reached a cult-status...being the first RTCW-Top-Team ..
having this "anti-website" .. and now quitting the game on the climax.
Is this simply an attitude or did you plan to this ?
!A : Hehe, our new webiste is already in the making for 2 years now.
We simply do the things we like and don`t commit so much to one thing.
Now it`s time for something else.
?Q : In your eyes, what`s the difference betwwen a "fun-clan" like boh and top-sponsored
multigaming-clans, which we also saw at qcon ?
!A : We are cooler than mtw and ocrana =)
?Q : Looking back at the first year of RTCW and your carrier in this game,
which events and develpments were the most significant and stay on your mind ?
!A : QuakeCon and gxp were the highlights.Apart from that I noticed that all RTCW-clans
are nice The scene is very good except for some guests and will stay alive for a long time.
?Q : Did you de-install RTCW or will you be playing on public server still (like Effe used to do).
Or only with different nicks ?
!A : I am waiting for my demos against ocrana on beach =), then I will deinstall RTCW some time...
?Q : Why did bLINDFISCH go to ocrana some time ago ?
!A : Because he wasn`t playing for us anymore. But in his heart he is still a boh
and is idling in our internal..;)
?Q : How do you see the future of RTCW ?
!A : Not as bad as others . There is still a lot of potential in RTCW.
The new maps were not played by now and the tactics on the old maps have not ripened yet.
It will turn out in a way that there will be no more "only panzer" players but the classes
will be changed more. (like infensus did on assault).
Also the new mission-pack will bring new wind to the scene.
I hope there will be a Eurocup for competition and that the CPL will decide to include RTCW after all.
?Q : What will become of boh ? Any new activities or are you simply chilling until doom3 is released ?
!A : We are concentrating on the big boh-Christmas-Party and the Oktoberfest.
Phuzzl and I are doing an physical-chemical-biological experiment and we will document it.
And the_man & knick are testing out a lot of Currywurstbuden. (German traditional fast-food)
